The May 16-17 EU-Western Balkans summit did address the problems of integration, but it was eclipsed by another issue. The meeting turned out to be a landmark event that will go down in history as the day Europe united to openly defy the US. The EU will neither review the Iran nuclear deal (JPCOA) nor join the sanctions against Tehran that have been reintroduced and even intensified by America. Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the JPCOA was the last straw, forcing the collapse of Western unity. The Europeans found themselves up against a wall. America’s debt load is reaching a tipping point

America’s debt load is reaching a tipping point

Americans are having more trouble paying their bills these days. Consumer debt experts say this is a red flag that could foreshadow a more widespread economic impact.

New survey results from the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) find that 25 percent of adults aren’t paying their bills on time, and 8 percent have unpaid debts that have gone into collections — both increases of 3 percentage points from last year.

Matt Schulz, senior industry analyst at CreditCards.com, said he wasn’t surprised “that people are struggling to pay their bills because, realistically, there’s only so much credit card debt Americans can take on without serious problems and nobody has quite known what that tipping point is — but (more…)

Researchers Point to an AMD Backdoor—And Face Their Own Backlash

But in an unusual move, the CTS researchers shared their full findings with AMD only a day before going public, practically blindsiding the company. The typical disclosure window lasts for months, to give affected manufacturers a chance to address the issues. They also released their paper with almost no technical details that would allow anyone to reproduce the attacks they describe. And CTS includes an unusual disclaimer on its website that it may have “an economic interest in the performance of the securities of the companies” implicated in its reports, raising concerns from security analysts that they could benefit from a drop in AMD’s stock price.

How We Got To The Point That Hollywood Is Trying To Attack The Internet Via NAFTA

How We Got To The Point That Hollywood Is Trying To Attack The Internet Via NAFTA

Last week we announced our new site EveryoneCreates.org, featuring stories from many different creators of music, books, movies and more about how important the internet and fair use have been to their creations. As we noted, the reason for the site is that the legacy copyright gatekeepers at the MPAA and the RIAA have been using the Trump-requested NAFTA renegotiations to try to undermine both fair use and internet safe harbors by positing a totally false narrative that the internet has somehow “harmed” content creators.

Yet, as we know, and as the stories from various artists show, nothing is further from the truth. For most artists and content creators, the internet has been a huge boon. It has helped them create (more…)

Miracle ‘River of Hail’ collectively fills some dams to the point of overflowing in drought-stricken Northern Cape, South Africa
