(ANTIWAR.COM) — With an eye toward ending the conflict within Ukraine, a new report from former NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen, currently working as an adviser to the Ukrainian government, is pushing for the UN to commit 20,000 troops to the country. The 20,000 troops would be from “non-NATO countries,” with only Sweden and Belarus named as potentials. […]Source: New Report Urges 20,000 UN Troops in Ukraine
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has stated that the United States should take concrete steps to prove the end of support for Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), rather than rhetoric.
The statement was made amid the ongoing Turkish military offensive in the Kurdish-dominated Syrian city of Afrin, launched on January 20 and provoked, as Ankara explained, by the necessity for the country to protect its borders from a “terrorist army,” the new “Border Defense Forces,” comprising the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Kurdish YPG militias, trained by the US.
On the day the operation was started, Pentagon representative Adrian Rankine-Galloway told Sputnik that the US recognized Turkey’s concerns regarding the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), but called on all sides to avoid escalation and focus on countering terrorism.
Demonstrations in the northeastern city of Mashhad on Thursday prompted protests that spread to cities across the nation on Friday.
Anti-government protests have been documented in Iran’s capital, Tehran, as well as Kermanshah, Arak, Qazvin, Khorramabad, Karaj and Sabsevar, according to First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri, cited by official Iranian news agency IRNA.
The protests — described as the largest public display of discontent since the 2009 Green Movement in Iran — have broken out against a backdrop of rising food and gasoline prices. Some arrests have been reported in Iranian media.
Protesters have been heard on videos distributed on social media as chanting “Death to Rouhani,” a reference to Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani, who was reelected earlier this year, but CNN cannot independently verify the authenticity of the footage.

New Great Game: China Urges Turkey to Extradite Embassy Bombing Suspects to Kyrgyzstan, Major Powers Vie for Afghanistan
China Urges Turkey to Extradite Embassy Bombing Suspects to Kyrgyzstan
Three months after the Chinese Embassy in Bishkek was hit by a suicide car bomber, Kyrgyz authorities are still trying to catch several suspects accused of ordering, financing and preparing the attack.
The trace leads to Turkey, but Kyrgyzstan’s suspect list has left more questions than answers.
On September 6, Kyrgyzstan’s State Committee for National Security (GKNB) identified the suicide bomber as an ethnic Uyghur carrying a Tajik passport with the name Zoir Khalilov. According to the GKNB, he was a member of the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) in Syria.
The Kyrgyz state security service said that Uyghur terrorist groups in Syria affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra were behind the bombing. Emissaries of al-Nusra allegedly organized and financed the attack through Sirojiddin Mukhtarov, the leader of Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad (KTJ), a predominately Uzbek group which pledged allegiance to al-Nusra last year.
