The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) condemned the Israeli authorities’ decision to decrease the fishing area to 6 nautical miles off the area from the Gaza Valley to Rafah City in the south. According to the Israeli decision, the Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip are banned from sailing and fishing freely and denied them access to the areas where fish breed.
Nizar ‘Ayash, Head of the General Union of Fishing Workers in the Gaza Strip, said to PCHR’s fieldworker that on Monday, 11 December 2017, the Israeli authorities informed the Palestinian Civil Affairs Authority of decreasing the fishing area to 6 nautical miles from the Gaza Valley to Rafah City in the south. This decision will enter into force at 15:00 on Tuesday, 12 December 2017, restricting fishermen and their movement in the Gaza Waters. It should be mentioned that the Israeli authorities previously allowed the Palestinian fishermen to sail up to 9 nautical miles in the above-mentioned area on 03 May 2017.
PCHR emphasized that the Israeli decision against Palestinian fishermen is in violation of the right to work according to Article (more…)
On June 8, 1967, the virtually unarmed USS Liberty (AGTR-5), the U.S. Navy’s most sophisticated spy ship, while monitoring communications in international waters in the eastern Mediterranean during the Six-Day War—to find out if the Soviet Union was assisting its Arab client states—was viciously attacked by unmarked Israeli jets and marked Israeli motor torpedo boats.
The unprovoked, premediated assault murdered 34 young American boys and wounded 174, out of a crew of 294, an almost 71% casualty rate. The ship took nearly 1,000 cannon and rocket holes—some the size of basketballs—as well as over 5,000 armor-piercing shells, through the skin of the vessel. The Israelis dropped napalm on the defenseless ship and shot at sailors attempting to rescue the wounded and put out fires, as well as firing on all the remaining life rafts, a war crime.
Caught in the act after a Liberty SOS was picked up by the USS Saratoga (CV-60) hundreds of miles away conducting drills with other vessels of the Sixth Fleet, Israel claimed the massacre was an “accident,” (more…)

Israel has cancelled a Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit in Frankfurt after the German government refused to guarantee it would block Palestinian and Jordanian authorities from claiming ownership of the ancient manuscripts.
The Frankfurt Bible Museum announced the September 2019 exhibit was cancelled this week. Israel wanted the German government to guarantee the scrolls would be returned to Israel in a legally binding agreement before going ahead with the exhibition.
Germany’s foreign ministry and commissioner for cultural affairs were unable to do so, as the ownership of the scrolls is not clear, Hessenschau reports. Such an agreement would have blocked Palestinians and Jordanians from claiming the scrolls as their own, according to the Jewish News Agency.
President Trump had promised during his presidential campaign in 2016 that he will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Many experts doubted Trump’s promises back then and didn’t believe that a US president could take such a dangerous step. However many recent reports have claimed that the US president is close to announcing this historical decision.Trump said on October 8 that he wanted to give a shot at achieving peace between Israel and the Palestinians before moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Since then, no real effort has been made by the US to push the Israeli-Palestinian peace process forward.“I want to give that a shot before I even think about moving the embassy to Jerusalem … If we can make peace between the Palestinians and Israel, I think it’ll lead to ultimately peace in the Middle East, which has to happen” Trump said during an interview on October 8 according to Reuters.Saeb Erekat, a member of the Palestinian Parliament described the possible US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital as “playing with fire”, according to Al-Jazeera. “Any American recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will bring about the end of the Jerusalem (more…)
