A long-duration C1.5 solar flare erupted from geoeffective Active Region 2699 on February 12, 2018. The event started at 00:15, peaked at 01:35 and ended at 03:21 UTC. A G1 – Minor geomagnetic storm watch is in effect for February 15. This event produced an…… Read more »
A newly discovered asteroid designated 2018 CN2 flew past Earth at a distance of 0.18 LD / 0.00047 AU (~ 70 310 km / 43 689 miles) on February 9, 2018, one day after it was discovered. This is the 12th of 13 known asteroids to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance…… Read more »
A newly discovered asteroid designated 2018 CC will flyby Earth at a distance of 0.50 LD / 0.00128 AU (~191 485 km / 118 983 miles) on February 6, 2018. This is the 9th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar distance since the start of the year, 8th since…… Read more »
According to a video posted on their website, scientists believe areas like California and Japan are “overdue for a major earthquake.”
The scientists believe we are due because of the recent earthquakes in Alaska and California. They also said there is no way to tell when an earthquake like this would strike.
EXPERTS warned last year that 2018 would see an increase in earthquakes and we are already seeing this in action after a spate of tremors around the globe.

In the last few hours earthquakes have brought terror to Alaska, Papua New Guinea, Mexico, Indonesia, Hawaii and Chile while Japan has seen the spectacular eruption of Mount Kusatsu-Shirane.
Last year, experts warned that 2018 could see more deadly earthquakes as the rotation of Earth slows down.
The speed of Earth’s rotation fluctuates extremely mildly – extending or decreasing the length of a day by a millisecond – but this tiny deceleration could have devastating consequences.
Research from Roger Bilham of the University of Colorado in Boulder and Rebecca Bendick of the University of Montana in Missoula looked at earthquakes with a magnitude higher than seven since 1900.
The duo found five years since the turn of the 20th century where there were significantly more 7.0 earthquakes – all of which were years that earth’s rotation speed had slowed down slightly.
Prof Bilham told the (more…)

A newly discovered asteroid designated 2018 BW flew past Earth at a distance of 0.43 LD / 0.00112 (~167 549 km / 104 110 miles) at 15:13 UTC on January 15, 2018, 2 days before it was first observed. This is the 4th known asteroid to flyby Earth within 1 lunar…… Read more »
Scientists say that a potentially hazardous asteroid moving at 67,000 miles per hour will fly by the Earth on February 4th. But NASA assures the public that the 2002 AJ129 asteroid will not impact the Earth.
The asteroid will zoom by at nearly 15 times faster than the world’s quickest manned aircraft – the hypersonic North American X-15, which traveled at 4,520 miles per hour.
The asteroid is around 0.7 miles (1.1km) wide – making it longer than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which stands at 0.5 miles high (0.8km). It is set to pass by our planet at a distance of around 2,615,128 miles (4,208,641km) away – which is relatively close in space terms, causing NASA to label it as “potentially hazardous.” For reference, the distance between the Earth and the moon is 238,855 miles (384,400 km).
NASA describes asteroids as “hazardous” if they come within 4,600,000 miles (7,403,00km) of our planet. This will be the largest space rock to fly past the Earth this year. According to the Daily Mail UK, previous research says that should an asteroid of (more…)
As the world seemingly marches closer to global conflict, hypersonic aircraft and missiles are being developed and tested by the United States, Russia and China at an accelerating pace. Other, less belligerent nations are developing hypersonic technologies to a lesser degree. According to Rand Corporation, “France and India are the most committed, and both draw to some extent on cooperation with Russia.” Nevertheless, “Australia, Japan, and European entities” have hypersonic programs in early stages.
In any case, the race for hypersonic technologies is in full swing among global superpowers, who realize that the first to possess these technologies will revolutionize their civilian aerospace and military programs. However, as of January 2018, hypersonic technologies are still in development and or the testing phase, so it remains anyone’s game at this point.
