U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced his own “Fake News Awards” for 2017 on Wednesday via the Republican National Committee’s website, gop.com, and received the expected lukewarm reception from mainstream media outlets.
Trump announced the award “winners” by tweeting a link to a top eleven list hosted on a gop.com web page that initially experienced errors – web page access was restored shortly after the brief outage.

“2017 was a year of unrelenting bias, unfair news coverage, and even downright fake news. Studies have shown that over 90% of the media’s coverage of President Trump is negative.”
CNN led the way with four awards, while the New York Times notched two spots on Trump’s list:

US President Donald Trump has declared ‘The New York Times’ as the winner of the ‘Fake News Award’.
Among other recipients of Trump’s unique award were ‘ABC News’, ‘CNN’, ‘Time’ and ‘The Washington Post’.
Trump announced the award by a tweet yesterday.
The website GOP.Com – where the winners were listed – crashed soon after Trump announced his Fake News Awards.
President Trump unveiled the winners of his “highly anticipated” Fake News Awards Wednesday night on the GOP’s official website.

On Thursday morning, former retail giant Macy’s, announced that was preparing to fire 5,000 job cuts, including closure of seven previously unidentified stores and other cuts at remaining locations, as it seeks stability in a tumultuous climate for “physical retail.” The retailer’s cost reductions come as it announced that its comparable holiday sales rose a modest 1.1% for the Nov/Dec period relative to 2016.
As TSA agents continue to prove their incompetence in the “War on Terror,” the Department of Homeland Security is now allocating $1 billion in taxpayer funding to create a facial recognition program that will illegally scan Americans’ faces.
A study conducted by Georgetown Law’s Center for Privacy and Technology looked at the biometric scanners that are creating an inventory of the faces of individuals leaving the country at airports across the United States. While they are only at certain major airports right now, the full implementation of these scanners could cost Americans up to $1 billion.
The study noted that while the “9/11 Response and Biometric Exit Account” created by Congress has the funds for the program, “neither Congress nor DHS has ever justified the need for the program.”
