Cops turn off body-cams while they knock a man unconscious; street-cams exonerate the victim

Cops turn off body-cams while they knock a man unconscious; street-cams exonerate the victim

As Minneapolis is in an uproar that a resident, Justine Damon, could be shot and killed by police not using their body cameras to capture the horrific incident, one man is suing police for manipulating their own body cams to incriminate him.

Barine Deezia was walking home with his friends early on the morning of March 20, 2016, when police noticed one of his friends, a female, who appeared to be intoxicated.

They wanted to know what bar served her and were following her and Deezia down the street. The group of friends seemed to be managing just fine without the help of police, but like a criminal gang, the police kept following them.

Eventually, Deezia found a place for his female friend to sit and begin to sober up, but police engaged the group again. Because they had switched off their cameras the equipment was not recording the incident in question but street cameras did.

The video shows Deezia and his group of friends sitting and standing on an outside patio of a restaurant, when all of a sudden, police swarmed in and violently slammed Deezia into the restaurant’s windows and then forcefully took him to the ground.

Tourist is attacked by shark off Mallorca, Spain

Tourist is attacked by shark off Mallorca, Spain

A tourist has been attacked by a 6ft shark on a crowded Mallorca beach in the third sighting this summer.

Swimmers were ordered to leave the waters of the Estanys beach in Colònia de Sant Jordi after the man was grazed on the arm by the female shark yesterday afternoon.

A shark sighting alert was relayed to nearby beaches and a red warning flag was raised.

The shark is thought to have come close to the shore due to the hot weather and tides, or become sick and disorientated.

This is the third time a shark has been seen in the waters of Mallorca in the last few weeks.

Dunford says Turkey purchasing Russian S-400 air defense systems would concern Washington

Dunford says Turkey purchasing Russian S-400 air defense systems would concern Washington

Ankara procuring the advanced S-400 anti-missile system from Russia would become a matter of concern for Washington, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Joseph Dunford said, dismissing reports of the purchase as “incorrect.”

“There was a media report that was incorrect. They have not bought the S-400 air defense system from Russia. That would be a concern, were they to do that, but they have not done that,” General Dunford said Saturday at the Aspen Security Forum in Colorado.

Russia and Turkey have been discussing the contract since November 2016, with top officials from both sides confirming at different times the deal has been “agreed upon” and “having arrived at the final decision point.” Since Ankara is reportedly seeking a loan to get the systems, “the current discussion refers to financial issues,” according to Rostec CEO Sergey Chemezov.

According to bioterrorism experts a deadly plague could potentially be released as a cloud above a city

According to bioterrorism experts a deadly plague could potentially be released as a cloud above a city

When two cases of plague popped up in New Mexico in June, they served as a reminder that the black death – yes, the plague – is still around.

The infection affects a handful of people in the US every year and between a few hundred and a few thousand annually around the world. Most people survive a plague infection these days, since it can almost always be treated with antibiotics.

But researchers, bioweapons experts, and governments still worry that the plague could be turned into a deadly bioweapon, especially if someone with terroristic intent were to find or engineer a strain that couldn’t be treated with common drugs.

Over 200 sheep dead after bear chases them off a cliff

Over 200 sheep dead after bear chases them off a cliff

More than 200 sheep have died after they hurtled over the edge of a cliff in the Pyrenees mountains while being chased by a bear.

Their deaths have reignited the bitter debate over the presence of bears in the mountain range that straddles the French-Spanish border, where they were reintroduced 20 years ago after disappearing in the early 1990s.

The sheep belonged to a farmer in the Couflens area on the French side of the border, but their bodies were found last Sunday at the foot of a cliff just over the border in Spain.

The rest of the large flock was missing after dispersing over the mountains while fleeing the attack.

Local authorities sent experts to examine the scene during the week and they concluded that the sheep had been running away from a bear.

Huge red sprite captured over Austria (PHOTO)

Huge red sprite captured over Austria (PHOTO)

On July 21 photographer Martin Popek of Nýdek, Czechia recorded a magnificent display of sprites leaping up from a thunderstorm in neighboring Austria. “The storm was about 390km away,” says Popek, “and the sprite was huge. It stretched 50 km to 90 km above the ground below.”

Sometimes called “space lightning,” sprites are a true space weather phenomenon. They inhabit the upper atmosphere alongside auroras, meteors and noctilucent clouds. Some researchers believe they are linked to cosmic rays: subatomic particles from deep space striking the top of Earth’s atmosphere produce secondary electrons that, in turn, could provide the spark that triggers sprites.

According to the website SpaceWeather the link to cosmic rays is particularly interesting at this time. Despite a brief reduction in cosmic rays last week caused by the sweeping action of a passing CME, cosmic rays are intensifying. For the past two years, space weather balloons have observed a steady increase in deep space radiation penetrating our atmosphere.

Palestinians: We reject any alternative Temple Mt security devices

July 23, 2017, 9:14 AM (IDT) The Israeli government and security cabinet meeting Sunday will scrutinize the effectiveness of the metal detectors and possible alternative measures for securing the Temple Mount shrines – in light of a wave of violent Palestinian demonstrations and the boycott on prayer at Al Aqsa called by the Waqf in protest. However, a Palestinian spokesman in Ramallah rejected any alternative security devices whatsoever. This position, he said, was “non-negotiable.” And a Waqf official commented that the metal detectors were not the issue.

Polar blast blamed for 2 deaths in Brazil

Polar blast blamed for 2 deaths in Brazil

The polar blast affecting much of South America’s Southern Cone has claimed its first mortal victims in Brazil, authorities said Wednesday.

A 45-year-old homeless man was found dead late Tuesday in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, where the temperature climbed only to 10 C (50 F) – the coldest daily maximum in four years – before falling to 8.3 C (47 F) after sunset.

Sao Paulo’s lowest temperature ever is 7.3 C (45 F), recorded on July 12, 1988.

The other fatality reported Wednesday was also a homeless man, a resident of Curitiba, capital of the southern state of Parana, who died amid overnight temperatures of minus 1.3 C (30 F).

The Sao Paulo municipal government said that despite an increase in the number of beds at homeless shelters to 11,800, the facilities were unable to accommodate everyone seeking to come in from the cold.

Around 20,000 people, including families with children, are sleeping on the streets of Sao Paulo, according to the Rev. Julio Lancelotti, coordinator of homeless outreach for Brazil’s Catholic bishops conference.

A number of towns in southern Brazil experienced record low temperatures on Wednesday and some areas had snow and frost.

Bom Jardim da Serra, a town in the mountains of Santa Catarina state, posted an overnight low of minus 8.8. C (16 F).
